The University of Cincinnati community is grieving the unexpected death of freshman football player Jeremiah Kelly, who passed away in his sleep at his Ohio residence on April 22, 2025. Kelly, 18, had recently joined the Bearcats as an early enrollee and had completed spring practice with the team.
Standing at 6foot3 and weighing 320 pounds, Kelly was a promising offensive lineman from Avon, Ohio. He played a pivotal role in leading Avon High School to a perfect 160 season and their first state championship in 2024. Recognized as a consensus threestar prospect, he was ranked among the top 100 recruits in Ohio and was noted for his leadership both on and off the field.
Head coach Scott Satterfield expressed his sorrow, stating, The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man. In the short time Jeremiah has spent with our team, he has made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. Athletic Director John Cunningham also conveyed condolences, emphasizing the universitys commitment to supporting the Kelly family and the studentathlete community during this difficult time.
The cause of Kellys death has not been disclosed, and local authorities have not provided additional information. In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established by a family friend to assist with unexpected expenses, raising over 30,000 toward its 50,000 goal.
