Springfield Police officers discovered McGee at his home during a wellness check on Friday morning. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have stated that the investigation into the incident remains active.
McGee, a native of Wichita, Kansas, was entering his fifth season with the Missouri State Bears. He had been the teams starting safety during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, earning secondteam AllMissouri Valley Football Conference honors in 2023. That year, he led the team with 102 total tackles, including 59 solo stops, and contributed two interceptions, eight passes defended, and two fumble recoveries. His performance placed him among the top defenders in the conference and the Football Championship Subdivision FCS.
In 2024, McGees season was cut short due to a lower extremity injury sustained during a game against Youngstown State. Despite the setback, he remained a key figure in the teams defense and was expected to play a central role in the upcoming 2025 season.
